Velayati proposes Iran-EU cooperation against terrorism

Tehran, March 2, IRNA – Supreme Leader’s adviser in international affairs proposed on Wednesday that the European countries would cooperate with Iran in re-establishment of peace and security in Middle East and campaign against terrorism and extremism.

Ali Akbar Velayati made the proposal in an interview with the Italian daily La Republica, also proposing that the European countries would get engaged in a real and practical negotiations with those countries that support terrorism.

In response to a question on whether Iran’s one-to-one negotiations with the US during the nuclear talks could be extended to include other issues, Velayati said that the talks with the Americans began with the nuclear issue and apparently ended with those talks.

‘Even in that case the Iran-US talks were made possible thanks to a permission issued by the Supreme Leader of the Revolution,’ he added.

The former Iranian top diplomat, meanwhile, stressed that Iran has throughout the period that terrorism and extremism has emerged in the Middle East stood firmly in the campaign against it.

‘Some other countries, such as Russia, too, have contributed frankly to that campaign,’ he added.

Velayati also stressed that Iran’s presence in some regional countries has been based on those countries’ central governments, and therefore quite legal, unlike some other regional and trans-regional countries’ presence in those countries.
