[Video] Cop Assaults High School Student in South Carolina Classroom

Richland County, SC (WLTX) – A video has surfaced online of a school resource officer assaulting a Spring Valley High School student inside a classroom.

The video surfaced on social media Monday afternoon. In the video, a female student can be seen sitting at her desk in the classroom. An officer grabs the student and flips the whole desk over. When the student is on the ground, the officer grabs the student and drags her for several feet.

The officer tells the girl to put her hands behind her back and the video stops.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told News19 that a disruptive student refused to leave the classroom after being asked by the teacher. The school resource officer eventually came to the room. Lott said the student resisted arrest.

In a statement to News19, Richland School District Two gave the following response:

“We are aware of an incident that occurred today at Spring Valley High School,” the district said in a statement. “Video of it has been posted on social media. The incident is under investigation. We are working closely with the sheriff’s department.”

Local advocacy group, the Richland Two Black Parents Association, released a statement saying the officer’s actions were “egregious.”

“Parents are heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color,” the statement read. “As we have stated in the past, we stand ready to work in collaboration to address these horrible acts of violence and inequities among our children”.
