Fifteen people were killed in the deadly fire that broke out hours before daybreak on Tuesday and burned a metal storage structure on the outskirts of Moscow, Reuters reported.
The victims, mostly migrant workers from Tajikistan and possibly other Central Asian states, had apparently been living in makeshift quarters in the back of the two-story storage house.
Several fire-fighting teams were sent to the scene to put out the flames.
One investigator suggested that the fire could have been caused by an electric heater left on overnight.
Other reports indicated that the authorities have opened a criminal investigation on suspicion of fatal negligence of fire safety rules.
A law enforcement official said the inspection of the building in February had revealed 18 safety violations.
The deadly incident came only hours after a blaze at a skyscraper in Moscow– in which no one was hurt.
