The organisers of the Wee Waa annual show, in northern New South Wales, say the official worldwide launch of Daft Punk’s new album will still be a great party, despite the album having been released early.
Last month the French pop duo announced they had chosen the annual show in the tiny New England town to globally launch their highly anticipated album this Friday.
However, today the band decided to allow fans to stream the album for free online.
Wee Waa Show president Brett Dickinson says he is not disappointed, and is still expecting a fantastic night with more than 4,000 people expected to show up.
“It’s hard to have a party on your own when you download a song off the internet,” he said.
“If you want to be part of this light and spectacular show that’s going to be here on Friday night, it’s the place to be.”
The quirky duo have made it clear they will not be travelling to Australia for the launch.
In an interview with JJJ’s the Doctor, one half of the group Thomas Bangalter explained why they had chosen Wee Waa as the venue.
“Each time we went to Australia it was a great experience and it felt like Australia understands our music and we’re excited to present the music there,” he said.
It’s a perfect idea because it could be anywhere. That’s what this record is made for – anywhere and everywhere.

Meanwhile, police have launched Operation Hadrian ahead of the crowd numbers expected in Wee Waa this weekend.
They say they are targeting anti-social behaviour and alcohol-related crime, underage drinking, drink-driving and drug-related offences, as well as enforcing acceptable crowd behaviour.
Spokesman Rory O’Connor says many police units will band together to assist the Barwon and New England Local Area Command’s for the music event.
He says the riot squad, traffic and highway control officers, mounted police and the dog unit will all be on hand.
“As you can gather, there will be quite a strong police presence in town because there will be upwards of 4,000 people descending on the town of Wee Waa.”
