AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher has the scoop that Yahoo is ready to name Scott Thompson, current president of eBay‘s PayPal service, as its next CEO. Citing ” sources close to the situation,” Swisher says the decision could be announced on Tuesday. She calls Thompson a “dark horse and someone who has not been named in previous reports,” but also “a genuine Internet geek” whose seemingly well-rounded career includes gigs at Barclays and a Visa subsidiary. We’ll call Thompson a dark horse too since we never really heard much about him before today. But fresh geeky blood might be what aging tech giant needs, as it seems company after company has considered buying it up after Carol Bartz was unceremoniously fired as CEO in September.
