The caption in question read, “115 Pounds of Grit and Heartache.” The words “grit and heartache” make it sound like the story inside is going to be about the actress’ resolve in the face of relationship woes, which include a split from her “The Words” costar Bradley Cooper. So it’s rather shocking that Allure threw Zoe Saldana’s weight in there for no good reason at all.
Perhaps the magazine felt the need to mention something beauty-related since the rest of the cover is about soothing skin, stopping sweat, surfer-girl hair, and nail designs. Whatever the case may be, it’s still stupid to make her weight an issue on the cover, especially since so many thin-obsessed girls will now feel worse about themselves because they see a number assigned to a successful celeb that’s lower than what they see on their own scales. Beauty magazines are supposed to give women ideas about how to look better, not fat-shame them by throwing the weights of skinny celebrities in their faces.
However, Zoe Saldana’s weight being pasted on the cover of a magazine isn’t the biggest weight-related issue involving an actress in the “Star Trek Into Darkness” movie. Zoe’s blonde bombshell costar Alice Eve recently revealed that she ate nothing but spinach for five months so that she could slim down for the movie. Surely that can’t be healthy — it sounds like a diet that an anorexic girl would experiment with.
So do you think that the cover featuring Zoe’s weight was irresponsible, or do you think that much ado is being made about nothing? And do you think that Alice Eve was irresponsible for revealing her dangerous spinach diet?
