Susanne.Posel-Headline.News.Official- yahoo.ad.block.email_occupycorporatismUsers of AdBlock Plus are reporting that they cannot access their Yahoo Mail while in a Chrome or Firefox browser.

This tactic is becoming increasingly popular, as the Washington Post is one of the first publications to enforce a similar kind of rule.

According to posts in the AdBlock forum show that Yahoo is deliberately denying users access to their email because advertisements are being blocked.

Among those locked out of their email accounts is Andrei Herasimchuk, a former senior director of product design at Yahoo and now works as the director of design at Twitter.

Not all Yahoo email users are being kept from their accounts; however if a user alters their Yahoo Mail URL to include “reason=ADBLK_TRAP”, the error message denying access will appear – even without AdBlock installed on the device.

According to a Yahoo spokesperson, this block is being tested on select users. The company also said: “At Yahoo, we are continually developing and testing new product experiences. This is a test we’re running for a small number of Yahoo Mail users in the U.S.”

One Yahoo Mail user took to Twitter to voice distain for the change: “LOL – Fuck you Yahoo Mail for trying to get me to turn off my ad-blocker. You can kiss my ass with that bullshit.”
