They were a regular sight until 1972 when they ceased running from Wellington to New Plymouth: we took this photo of a preserved ‘Standard” railcar from 1938 crossing the Waikanae River northbound yesterday. It is owned by a railcar society based in Pahiatua and makes regular excursion trips from there.
