An unusually-named restaurant that tells patrons “there’s something for everyone” is making the most of the strange situation the world finds itself in now by offering its patrons T-shirts that state “I got Corona at Omicron!”

Yes, indeed, “Omicron” is indeed the name of this Greek-owned family restaurant, which serves comfort food to hungry diners in the heart of America, in West Bend, Wisconsin, forty miles north of Milwaukee.

The owners — like all Greek business owners in the United States — have great business sense. And why not make the best of an awkward situation by having a little fun at their own expense, selling T-shirts to customers that tell the world proudly that they “got Corona” at the restaurant?

Omicron name is unique in the restaurant business

The story comes at a time when many in the public are thinking — quite rightly — that they really have just about seen it all during the course of this seemingly endless pandemic. So why not just go with it and make hay while the sun shines?

As the news website NotTheBee, which is an outgrowth of the satirical site The Bee, states, “You gotta go with the positives in life, you really do.”

Serving American, Greek, Italian, and Mexican dishes, the restaurant, which has been serving diners for more than three decades, is owned by Bill Tsiampas and his uncle John Tsiampas.

The owner tells Nexstar’s WFRV that “We’ve been here longer than the virus, 32 years!” And indeed that is true. Coming to the United States as 14-year-olds, they and their families have built the restaurant into the local institution that it is today.

Bill’s father, also called Bill Tsiampas, and his uncle, John Tsiampas, who opened the restaurant, have been in the hospitality business for over fifty years.

Featuring over 200 items on their menu, the restaurant is fully open, from 7 AM to 8 PM, to all at a time when some cities across the nation are limiting patronage to only those who have been fully vaccinated.

Sports venues in the state, as well as churches, are full again. And this laid-back attitude is reflected in the T-shirts, which are indeed selling like the hotcakes that are also on the menu.

And true to the motto that “There is no bad publicity,” The Omicron is now attracting customers from out of town who are intrigued by the name of the restaurant, which is absolutely unique.

For his part, Bill Tsiampas takes everything in stride, saying that he hopes the restaurant’s new claim of fame helps bring in more customers to make up for the difficulties of last year. “It’s kind of cool that we get to be the positive (face) of the word Omicron, instead of the negative, a smiling waitress told reporters.

As of now, people are stopping along the highway to take photos with the sign out front and the owners are busily arranging for the T-shirts to be sold at the restaurant beginning on December 14.
