Al-Qaeda rejects Anders Behring Breivik comparison

Although the 33-year-old killer is not mentioned by name in the Inspire article, it is illustrated by an image of him clutching an automatic rifle.

The article goes on to criticise the professed goal of Breivik’s attack.

“The Right-wing extremists apparently can kill their own people for as ridiculous a reason as waking them up. This is extremism at its peak,” the writer argues.

In contrast, it argues al-Qaeda is trying to establish a just society.

“The Right-wing extremists are the real crusaders who seek mere bloodshed, whereas the mujahideen of al-Qaeda seek the establishment of a just socio-political order throughout the globe: The Shari’ah.”

Breivik has confessed to killing eight people in a bomb attack in Oslo, and then to shooting a further 69 dead, mostly teenagers, at a Labour Party youth camp on the island of Utoya.

The trial began on April 16, and is scheduled to last for ten weeks.
