Americans rap IMF, World Bank, G20

On Saturday, activists marched to the White House and Treasury Department to condemn the IMF and the World Bank’s so-called Spring Meetings, on the sidelines of which the G20 representatives also met.

The protesters accused the G20 of spreading capitalism, misery, and a chaotic economic climate to the world.

The rally was organized by the National Nurses United union, Health GAP organization and Friends of the Earth activists.

The organizers of the protest stated that while Wall Street banks and corporations are making hefty profits, people are suffering from job losses and cuts to public programs.

On the sidelines of the IMF and the World Bank Spring Meetings, which officially kicked off in Washington on Friday, the G20 officials issued a statement calling for further actions to bring “strong, sustainable, and balanced” world economic growth.

“The global economy has avoided some major tail risks and financial market conditions continue to improve,” said the communiqué. “However, global growth has continued to be too weak and unemployment remains too high in many countries.”

It added, “Maintaining fiscal sustainability in advanced economies remains essential.”
