Australia: World’s Richest Woman’s Alpha coal mine halted over Great Barrier Reef fears
Herald Sun – Gina Rinehart’s $6.4 billion Queensland coal mine has been blocked by the Federal Government until a report of its potential effects on the Great Barrier Reef is completed. The Alpha coal project received the nod from the Queensland Government last week, but depends on federal approval before going ahead. Environment Minister Tony Burke called the state’s approval process a “shambolic joke”. Read article
