The Queen’s granddaughter Lady Louise Windsor has told her parents ‘not to blame my pony’ after a tumble that left her with a broken arm.

The eight-year-old daughter of Prince Edward and his wife Sophie is getting extra care from her four-year-old brother James, who has been tending to her with his toy doctor’s kit.

A source said: ‘They adore each other and Louise is a protective sister, so it’s very sweet to see how little James is enjoying looking after her.’

Lady Louise fell while out with her instructor and a groom on the royal estate at Windsor Castle last week.

She has been fitted with a blue cast, although will not need further treatment.

Despite her aches, Lady Louise is
said to be good spirits, though she is finding the cast ‘a bit heavy’.
She has told her parents that it wasn’t the pony’s fault  and that they
should ‘not be cross with him’.

The source added: ‘Lady Louise is a
confident and capable rider. She doesn’t take risks. I’ve been told the
pony was either spooked or feeling skittish.

‘This is her first pony and she was over the moon to get it.’

The pony was a gift from the Queen,
who is expected to visit Lady Louise for tea this weekend. Her Majesty
regularly visits her youngest son’s home at Bagshot Park in Surrey.

‘Often she arrives unannounced,’ the source revealed.

‘Louise took a very heavy tumble. But
because most Royals now wear the same body protectors as jockeys –
which cushion the back and upper torso – she was saved from more serious
injuries. Her hard hat also protected her.

‘She often goes riding with the Queen
and has had a few tumbles in the past, but this was the worst. She’s
black and blue from bruises on her left side.’

Prince Edward, a devoted hands-on
father, carried on with a public engagement after Lady Louise’s fall –
but Sophie pulled out of an event in Manchester to be by her daughter’s
side.

Since birth Lady Louise, a bridesmaid
at Prince William’s wedding, has suffered from exotropia – which causes
a severe squint. It is understood that she has already undergone
surgery for the condition but may require further treatment.
