Awake Goy Tehran, Oct 31, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif on Monday congratulated the Lebanese people on the election of a new president.
Zarif twitted, ‘Congratulations to all the Lebanese on election of President Aoun.’
He wrote that stability and progress is assured when Lebanese themselves decide for Lebanon.
Lebanon’s parliament on Monday elected Michel Aoun, a member of parliament and a former army commander, as the country’s 13th president.
Election of Michel Aoun as president puts an end to a political stand-off caused by Saudi intervention that had left the post empty for more than two years.
Michel Aoun received 83 votes out of the total 127 votes cast to become president.
