The popular site was unavailable for an hour and 40 minutes in countries all over the world from Europe through to Asia following the two service outages.
The crash, prompting a flurry of complaints on rival sites, was the longest service disruption for several months.
Thursday’s crash was extensive enough that Twitter didn’t even display its famous “Fail Whale” error message. Instead, the site timed out and failed to load the page.
