In Lebanon, 2 killed in clashes

The Lebanese official, whose name was not mentioned in the report, said the victims died during Monday clashes in the neighborhood of Jabal Mohsen, where most residents support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Fighting between the supporters of Damascus and its opponents, who come from the nearby Bab al-Tibbaneh neighborhood, erupted on May 12 as anti-Damascus demonstrators tried to approach the offices of the pro-government Syrian Social Nationalist Party in Tripoli.

Lebanese security forces intervened to disperse the demonstrators, who were calling for the release of Shadi al-Mawlawi, arrested in Tripoli over allegations of having links to a “terrorist organization.”

On Sunday, three people, including a Lebanese soldier, were also killed as a result of the clashes between the two rival groups.
