FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda In a Tuesday meeting with Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias in Cyprus’ capital city, Nicosia, Salehi said Cyprus is the closest member of the European Union to the Middle East and Iran is also an important country in this region which enables them to cooperate in protecting the region’s interests.
Noting that Cyprus will be the next president of the EU, Salehi said there are suitable grounds to remove misunderstandings between Iran and the EU through rationality and good management.
The Iranian foreign minister stated that the relations between Tehran and Nicosia are progressing, adding that Iran was among the first countries to recognize the independence of Cyprus.
He also submitted Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s oral message to his Cypriot counterpart to take part in the next Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran.
Christofias, for his part, noted that Cyprus’ attitude to Iran is, and will continue to be, positive.
He added that by taking advantage of its position as the forthcoming president of the European Union, Cyprus will do its best to promote relations between Iran and EU member states.
Heading a politico-economic delegation, Salehi left Tehran for Cyprus earlier on Tuesday to hold talks with Cypriot officials on bilateral ties as well as the recent regional and international developments.
He will also meet with Cyprus minister of economic affairs and acting foreign minister Vassos Shiarly during his one-day visit to the eastern Mediterranean country.
