Iran futsal squad wins WAFC Cup

The hosts, who registered a 7-3 victory against their Iraqi rivals on May 1 to qualify for the final, routed Jordan 5-0 in the 6,000-seater Ghadir stadium of Orumiyeh city, the capital of Iran’s West Azarbaijan Province, and situated 700 kilometers (460 miles) northwest of the national capital, Tehran, on Wednesday.

Iran opened the scoring only nine minutes into the match. Just two minutes later, it seized another perfect chance to put the ball into the back of the net and double Iran’s lead.

Hossein Tayebi Bidgoli scored the third goal for Iran in the 23rd minute. The Iranian striker came from behind ten minutes later and scored Iran’s fourth goal.

Mohammad Keshavarz Nasrabadi earned Iran’s last goal in the 40th minute of the first half.

In the other match of the day, Iraq took the third place after winning against Palestine 7-4.

A total of five teams from Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait and Palestine took part in the 3rd West Asia Men’s Futstal Championship, which began on April 27 and wrapped up on May 2.

Iran finished in the first place with 12 points from four matches, and was followed by Jordan with 7 points. Iraq earned six points, while Kuwait got 4. Palestine ended the tournament pointless.

Iranian Javad Asghari Moghaddam was named top scorer of the 3rd West Asia Men’s Futstal Championship, while his teammate Alireza Samimi was chosen the best goalkeeper.

Jordanian Samer Naser Aldeen was selected the most valuable player.
