ISAF Spokesman, Brig. General Carsten Jacobson told reporters here in Kabul that the international forces had removed Taliban from power since coalition forces began operations before ten years in Afghanistan.

As in any conflict, Afghanistan has experienced triumphs and setbacks. Overall progress has been significant and the result of the surge is that ISAF and the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan are not in a position to make dramatic steps towards the transfer of security responsibilities from ISAF to Afghan security forces, the spokesman said.

“The only way to ensure that Afghanistan is safe and secure, and never again becomes a training ground for international terrorists, is to see this process through. Any suggestion that the international community should abandon Afghanistan committing the people of this country to renewed and violent conflict and driving that of international terrorist attacks being launched from within Afghanistan’s border”, a press release also received by Veterans to day reporter said.

The spokesman further said that the only way to avoid this prospect is to see the ISAF mission in Afghanistan through to the achievement of its stated objectives beyond 2014.

“Let me emphasize a point here so we are clear and there are no doubts. The international community is not closing the door and leaving Afghanistan alone after 2014”, he noted.

The spokesman also added that they will see this through, no matter how long it takes to ensure that the Afghan security forces are trained and well equipped to secure their own country.

The spokesman also recalled the international forces achievements in Afghanistan as saying that they had made numerous achievements in the past year. “Just think we have 3 more years to go. If we were able to make great strides in just this year alone, one can just imagine where we will be with 3 more years to grow, train and mentor the Afghan security forces.

The spokesman also said that Pakistan should not support terrorist circles as the move would not only harm Afghanistan but would be problematic for the security of Pakistan too.

Related to the Pakistani artillery attacks, Jacobson said ISAF is seeking a diplomatic way to tackle the problem as the military measure would not yield fruitful.

Jacobson also pointed out to the efforts made by the Afghan people and the world community as saying that the people of Afghanistan and the international community have made significant progress over the past decade in enhancing security, governance, and development.

Spokesman for the Afghan ministry of defense, Gen. Zaher Azimi also briefed about the sixth session of ten countries defense ministers including Abdul Rahim Wardag, Afghan defense minister which was held in Brussels in October-6 this year.

He said ISAF and the world community have started their work on elimination of terrorist circles, strengthening reintegration process and national reconciliation in the country.

This is while the next phase of security transition is expected to be announced by the Afghan president, Hamid karzai this year.
