They spend most of their days in tracksuits and trainers.

But Britain’s Olympians showed they scrub up rather well, after posing for a glamorous photoshoot in their finery.

Previous Olympic medallists such as sprinter Linford Christie and hurdlers Kriss Akabusi and Sally Gunnell, were joined by some of Britain’s greatest London 2012 hopefuls.

Styled by David Hawkins the athletes were photographed in ball gowns and suits by British designers for British Airways’ High Life magazine.

Dressage rider Laura Bechtolscheimer, 27, is widely tipped to win a gold medal this summer.

Aptly, she wore a gold-coloured £1,000 skirt suit and matching £550 wedges by Mulberry.

She was joined by eventing rider Mary King, 51, who will compete in her sixth Olympics this summer.

Bringing a touch of glamour to boxing, Olympic hopeful Natasha Jonas wore a £395 Navy Burberry dress and £375 black peep-toe by the same designer.

The lightweight boxer said she would be in ‘floods of tears’ if she secured a medal at the Games this summer.

Among the former Olympians was
swimmer Sharron Davies, 49, who wore a dramatic floor-length navy blue
gown with a huge train from Catherine Walker.

The retired swimmer won silver in the 400m medley at the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

Sat somewhat awkwardly on the edge of a bath, she posed with fellow swimmer Duncan Goodhew, who won gold and bronze medals at the same Games.

Javelin medallist Fatima Whitbread, 61, who starred in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, also wore a Catherine Walker dress and a large diamond and sapphire necklace from Hancocks.

She said: London 2012 is important to everyone.

‘It is going to be a real boost for the morale of sports people.

‘Hopefully Team GB will be able to produce the goods because that’s what it’s all about.’

Oh dear. They may be great at representing the country in Lycra, but they shouldn’t have done this shoot. Not good.

jacket, trousers, shirt and nearly all with a tie. Glam up?
Nice to see the girls with such a range of clothes to wear, men are all dressed the same!

They looked better in their tracksuits!

Geez! Sharon looks like a man

Why is Sharron Davies sitting on a bath tub?

and they need to be dressed up for what reason? another waste of money. The Olympics is totaly money driven, no one seems to care about the personal glory of winning a medal, only about how much cash, fancy clothing, free cars etc etc thay can get.

I really love Fatima Whitbread’s hairstyle, but she isn’t 61 Daily Mail – more like 51!

More Olympic PE exercise to give the impression we all in it, well we are, we are all paying for this waste of money.

They all look good but you don’t get gold medals for dress sense!

The first two pictures and the one on the High Life cover look great.
