Motorists paying over the odds for fuel despite market prices of crude oil falling by more than 10%

Hard-pressed motorists have seen little or no benefit from the recent fall in crude oil prices, the AA has revealed.

A 7 per cent drop in the value of the pound against the dollar since August has denied drivers the possibility of a 2p per litre price cut on petrol, the motoring organisation said.

Prices dipped around 1.5p in August but have climbed again to leave prices of both petrol and diesel within a fraction of their all-time high seen in May, even though the market prices of crude oil have fallen by more than 10 per cent.

The cost of a litre of petrol is now 135.61p while a litre of diesel is 139.62p, meaning there has been none of the usual downward move following the end of the summer driving season, said the AA.

President Edmund King added that the price of Brent crude was also 10 US dollars a barrel out of line with the US equivalent of light crude, something that was potentially worth 5p a litre to UK motorists, he said.

‘Current fuel prices would be worse were it not for UK supermarkets’ traditional lag in passing on higher wholesale costs.’

  1. BOYCOTT BRITISH PETROLEUM PRODUCTS PERIOD. Help Chavez the BEST of three evils. Argentina, America and Briton.

  2. I’m still paying more for insurance than I use in gas or fuel a month for the car. 120 a month insurance and max 20 a week for fuel.Lucky, small town.Could never afford to drive long distance daily. It’s crazy. Always beleived strongest bulls stayed. Few off years recently. In for long haul. Will walk if necessary for sure. But like my freedom of choice.

    • cburke4now, I just quit driving a new car and refused to re-register it. The registration is $33.00 and the taxes they want to register it is $200.00 and it is going to sit there until things change and if not, I will dismantle it and make it disappear in the “Republic (our garbage collector). I now boycott the NFL, AIRLINES AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. Soon they will make one undress at the SUPERMARKET AND GAS PUMPS BEFORE YOU CAN GO IN OR BUY GAS. FUCKING NAZIS GOVERNMENT IN THIS COUNTRY!!!

  3. Am I stupid, or is this like $200 for a liter of gas?

  4. All companies share less and less of their revenues over time with their customers and employees. Why single out the oil industry? Why not grow a set and demand hemp fuels?
