(REPORT) — U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered his new administration to publish a weekly list of crimes committed by immigrants.

The move is part of the new executive order signed Wednesday, which targets sanctuary cities and counties which do not comply with federal requests to detain undocumented immigrants.

The order underlines plans to “make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens” across the United States. The list will also include details of “sanctuary cities” including New York, San Francisco and Chicago, that refuse to hand over immigrants for deportation.

“To better inform the public regarding the public safety threats associated with sanctuary jurisdictions, the secretary shall utilize the Declined Detainer Outcome Report or its equivalent and, on a weekly basis, make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens and any jurisdiction that ignored or otherwise failed to honor any detainers with respect to such aliens.”

However, the document does not specify if only crimes committed by undocumented immigrants will be included, raising the prospect of offenses committed by any immigrant being published even if the person is living in the U.S. with documents.

Mayors of sanctuary cities have reacted with outrage over the order, saying they are prepared for a protracted fight against the decision. The officials added that they would defend all people regardless of where they come from.

Trump’s order claims that shielding immigrants causes “immeasurable harm to the American people.” Nearly 500 jurisdictions are likely to fall under the order.
