ABU DHABI — Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have approved a plan to build
crude oil pipeline.
Bahrain’s state-owned Bapco said Manama and Riyad have decided to build an oil pipeline by 2016. Bapco said the 115-kilometer pipeline was designed
to transport 350,000 barrels per day from Saudi Arabia’s Abqaiq to Bahrain’s Sitra refinery.
In a statement on Sept. 18, Bapco said the project was meant to replace the existing oil link between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The current pipeline transports 230,000 barrels per day.
Under the project, the pipeline would run overland for 74 kilometers, with the remaining 31 kilometers moving underneath the Gulf. Bapco said it was teamed with Saudi Aramco to prepare an engineering, procurement and construction tender for the fourth quarter of 2013.
