PATENT BRAWL: Google is attacking Microsoft and Nokia in a complaint filed Thursday with European regulators. The documents accuse Microsoft and Nokia of abusing mobile patents in a way that threatens to drive up the prices of cellphones and other wireless devices.
THE IISSUE: After agreeing to team up in the cellphone business last year, Microsoft Corp. and Nokia sold about 2,000 patents to MOSAID Technologies Inc., a company that specializes in collecting royalties on intellectual property. Google Inc. says MOSAID is nothing more than a “patent troll.”
COUNTERPOINT: Microsoft brushed off Google’s complaint as “desperate tactic.”
