No Tobacco Day aims to snuff out smoking

On May 31, local events will be springing up all over the globe in support of No Tobacco Day,  the World Health Organization-backed initiative to inspire smokers to kick their habit.

Celebrating 25 years of No Tobacco Day, events range from talks and conferences promoting various WHO anti-smoking initiatives to art exhibits and fitness events to raise public awareness. Check your local listings for upcoming events in your area.

French nicotine cessation brand NiQuitin is launching an awareness campaign in Paris, catching smokers lighting up outside of restaurants and theaters and asking them to hand over their cigarettes.

In Mumbai, the city is hosting a musical show and flash mob, with Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi joining the WHO’s efforts to help inspire young smokers to snuff out their habit.

In London, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine is launching an art exhibition that focuses in on the film and fashion industries and their promotion of tobacco products. The exhibit runs from May 27 to 30.
