FAKE NEWS for the Zionist agenda The 700-strong rally was EDL’s first after their leader Tommy Robinson left the group last week over what he said were extremist members within the EDL ranks.
The gathering faced a heavy presence by the police, including mounted officers, as well as a rival “diversity” demonstration by 120 anti-fascist activists.
After the EDL rally, Chief Superintendent Simon Atkin of West Yorkshire Police praised the public for remaining calm and avoiding reaction to the group’s “provocation”, so that the incident “passed peacefully”.
The EDL website said their rally was meant to raise awareness about what they claimed to be child sexual exploitation among the Muslim community.
This comes as their former leader had apologized on Friday for his bigoted anti-Islamic statements and his street campaigning to create a culture of “us and them”.
Before the EDL rally, Bradford MPs George Galloway and Gerry Sutcliffe had demanded that the police “see sense and move to stop these scum polluting our streets”.
Meanwhile, a group of peace activists calling themselves Bradford Together had on Saturday held a 1,000-strong rally in the city’s Centenary Square, distributing 2,500 green ribbons as a symbol of peace ahead of the EDL gathering.
