In a meeting with visiting Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Tehran on Sunday, Saeed Jalili said freeing the world of nuclear weapons is a basic policy of the Islamic Republic.

He hoped that in the forthcoming multifaceted talks with Iran, the member states of the P5+1 – the US, Britain, Russia, China, and France plus Germany – will offer constructive proposals to build confidence with the Iranian nation.

Iran and the P5+1 held the first round of their new talks in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 14, after which both sides expressed satisfaction with general atmosphere of negotiations.

The two sides agreed to hold the second round of negotiations in Iraq’s capital city, Baghdad, on May 23.

Nalbandian, for his turn, pointed to close relations between Tehran and Yerevan, saying strategic ties between the two sides were growing rapidly in all fields.

He added that Armenia has always supported the right of all countries, including Iran, to peaceful use of nuclear energy and hoped the forthcoming negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 will be fruitful.

Earlier on Sunday, Nalbandian met with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi, during which both sides stressed the necessity of implementing bilateral agreements signed between the two countries.

They also took part in a joint press conference in which Salehi described the latest round of the talks between Tehran and the P5+1 in Istanbul as the “beginning of the end” to the Islamic Republic’s nuclear case.
