Saipa pummels Persepolis

Saipa pummeled the Reds 4-2 at a nearly empty Azadi stadium in Tehran on Saturday.

Karim Ansarifard’s early opener just five minutes into the match shocked Persepolis, but they got a bigger jolt when Amin Manouchehri doubled the lead after only two minutes on a pass through Persepolis’ defenders.

Referee Saeid Mozaffari increased the Reds’ misery when he sent off Saman Aqazamani following his second yellow card due to a bad tackle just one minute before the interval.

In the second half, Saipa killed all hope for Persepolis when Majid Gholamnejad scored Saipa’s third before the hour mark to give the visitors a three-goal cushion.

Ebrahim Shakouri pulled one back for the Reds in the 74th minute but Saipa extended its lead again five minutes later through Milad Gharibi.

A late consolation goal by Alireza Nourmohammadi a few minutes before the final whistle could not save the day for Persepolis.

In Saturday’s other matches, Malavan was held scoreless against Mes Kerman, Mes Sarcheshmeh defeated Fajr 1-0, and Saba and Naft Tehran played to a goalless draw.
