Sleiman urges army to pursue attackers

Sleiman said on Saturday that the Lebanese army should “pursue the assailants,” as such acts that targeted the country’s security were completely rejected.

“The Lebanese state will not tolerate such incidents and will find those who are responsible for them to maintain the security of the Lebanese people on its territories,” Sleiman added.

The remarks came after nine rockets fired by the foreign-backed militants in Syria hit the town of Baalbek in the northeast of the country on Friday, injuring at least two people.

The attacks occurred shortly after Hezbollah Secretary-General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah said the Lebanese resistance movement’s presence in Syria was aimed at defending the Syrian and Lebanese people against extremists.

On Wednesday, the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA) launched at least four rockets into Bekaa Valley.

On June 5, the foreign-backed militants launched at least twelve Grad rockets on Baalbek, wounding at least one child.

A barrage of rockets fired by Syria militants also hit the Bekaa region on June 1. Most of the rockets struck Nabi Sheet and Sareen regions, leaving several people injured.

The region is a stronghold of the Lebanese resistance movement, Hezbollah.

The Syria crisis began in March 2011, and many people, including large numbers of soldiers and security personnel, have been killed in the violence.

Damascus says the West and its regional allies Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey are supporting the militants.
