Stop Fracking for gas

  • SUNSHINE COAST FRACKING FILMS & FORUM
Political candidates, MPs and activists expose the dangers to the Sunshine Coast of fracking to extract methane gas. This controversial mining process offers jobs and prosperity, but reality is that big profits go to offshore energy cartels and mining magnates leaving an irreversible legacy of environmental damage and contaminated water.

    WHAT IS FRACKING?
Fracking (hydraulic fracturing) shatters underground rock
with explosives and high-pressure water using dangerous
chemicals to release coal seam gas (CSG). With 40,000
CSG wells planned for Queensland, fracking depletes and
poisons aquifers, releasing methane into drinking water
so it sets on fire. Fracking also causes earthquakes and
turns farmland and protected areas into toxic wateland.
Fracking already threatens irreversible damage to
the Great Artesian Basin, the Great Barrier Reef and
Aboriginal lands, and puts future generations at risk.

ARE THERE PLANS FOR FRACKING THE SUNSHINE COAST?
Fracking threatens the Sunshine Coast from the Mary River
to Tin Can Bay and the Blackall Range to Point Arkwright
if coal seam gas exploitation goes ahead.

    WHO PROFITS?
CSG brings royalties to government and offers local jobs,
yet mining tycoons intend to bring tens of thousands of
foreign migrant workers to Queensland, while massive
profits and tax breaks mostly benefit offshore energy cartels.
