The official number of votes counted in the 2011 Iowa Straw Poll is 16,892. The general breakdown of the total is as follows:

4823 – Michelle Bachmann
4671 – Ron Paul
2293 – Pawlenty
1657 – Santorum
1456 – Cain
718 – Perry
567 – Romney
385 – Gingrich
69 – Huntsman
35 – McCotter

Ok, so let’s add up the votes (4823 + 4671 + 2293 + 1657 + 1456 + 718 + 567 + 385 + 69 +35 = 16,674). But wait a minute, the total votes counted were 16,892 right? So, of the total votes counted in the Iowa Straw Poll amounting to 16,892. The ten candidates listed above garnered 16,674. Well that leaves 218 votes unaccounted for.

So where did the remaining 218 votes go?

MSNBC has reported that the 218 is actually only 162 votes that are a “scattering” of ballots for candidates receiving less than one percent of the votes. Ok, fine, so who are these candidates? In addition, if as MSNBC is reporting it is only 162 and not 218, then where did the other 56 votes go? Hey! Let’s confuse the public even more!

Let’s move on shall we?

FOX News and most other news outlets seem to have solved this mystery. Instead of accuracy in reporting, they simply resort to saying, “Bachmann received 28 percent of the nearly 17,000 votes cast.” No need to count the votes, just say “nearly 17,000″.

To be very clear, Congressman Ron Paul and Senator Michele Bachmann only had 152 votes difference in the Straw Poll.

Bachmann wins by 152 votes, meanwhile 218 votes seem to be unaccounted for publicly. While I am sure there is a very good reason for the missing votes, this is precisely what causes distrust of government and the media.

One other mystery is why media outlets seem to erase Ron Paul from most headlines and instead replace him with Rick Perry.

Another one is from Salon with an article entitled, “Let the fight for the right begin” just below the title is a photo of Bachmann and Rick Perry, then below the photo the article begins with, “Technically, the margin of victory for Michele Bachmann at Saturday’s Iowa straw poll was slight, with second-place finisher Ron Paul falling just 152 votes (or 0.9 percentage points) short of her tally. But everyone knows that Paul is a niche candidate.”

In closing I suppose we have two mysteries.

1. Where are the 218 unaccounted for votes?
2. Why are media outlets replacing Ron Paul’s second place victory with Rick Perry?

Alex, this is what u call Washinton math…. In DC they use a different set of rules than we do! JExample… The SS fund has a T-Bill setting in a file cabinet in Iowa, for 4 trillion dollars… However, the politicians say that there is only 4 billion dollars… They say that the fund will run out in 2036. They all so say that there is 78 millon baby boomers. Maybe 79.. If u do the math it will fund all of them to the age of 74.. However, not all will live to that age.. Every year u hear Congress crying about the deficit… But what u do not hear is them talkiing about them how much money they skiimed off the SS trust fund. 4 trillion dollars seposited the ss account via T-Bills is suddenly 2 trillion dollars and the SS (entitlement) fund is broke. Washington say’s SSN IS PAYED OUT OF THE GENERAL FUND BUDGET. Since the baby boomers have risen to the top of the pay off pyramid, there is not enough workers to pay them off. This math has turned SS in to a giant ponzi scheme…
Ron Paul wins the Iowa Online Straw Poll with 44%, the Yahoo Poll with 33%. and the FOX poll with 54%, plus by several accounts and my own, in the comment sections of several blogs, acting as an Exit Poll, Ron Paul easily comes out ahead with 60% of the comments in his favor.
And he comes out 1% behind Bachmann?

I do not by this for one second. I’m reminded of how they can rig the machines so the person they want always comes out with a 1% edge.

Now that Perry has entered the race the CONN (Corporate Owned News Networks) will focus on Perry and Bachmann trying to quell Ron Paul’s thunder. We need to double our efforts so that not even their dirty tactics and rigged machines can hide the truth of the strength of Ron Paul’s following!
Just watched the morning news shows. I did not hear Ron Paul mentioned. One I did not watch from the start, so maybe he was mentioned, but not to the degree the losers were. On “Face the Nation”, his name was not mentioned. Can you imagine. If Pawlenty or Romney had won the same number of votes as Ron Paul, it would have been a dead heat, with both candidates being interviewed. It would have been a sharing of the spotlight, with Bachman being questioned because it was her home state. Nope, no Ron Paul, nothing. That doesn’t even address the votes issues.

- Ron Paul has gained a great following where I live, especially among those who voted for Obama last time. Finally, a lot of people have had the opportunity to hear what Ron Paul has to say, and we heartily agree. Last election, we did not even know who Ron Paul was, because he always got edited out of the globalist news. We could tell BEFORE the primaries that Obama would be president because the idiots on TV covered him constantly. Perry has been chosen by the Bilderberg group. That in itself is enough to vote against Perry. This time the media criticizing and ignoring Ron Paul only makes people sit up and look into it.

I remember when Paul won the Dixville Notch poll. I don’t remember whether it was 1988 or a subsequent election season, but I DO remember that the media ignored the poll–one that they usually ballyhooed to no end as a great predictive device.

I remember repeatedly seeing the press report the election results as the two candidates receiving a total of 100% of the vote, i.e., candidate n gets 48% and candidate z gets 52%–thus leaving out all tallies for the other candidates, who did actually get a percentage of note. I remember lodging a protest at the local NBC station where I lived then, and having the station manager come out and cuss US out for protesting it. “See if I ever cover your events any more,” he said. What a turdbag.

These games and tricks are, thankfully, becoming quite transparent, thanks to various coverage, most especially the “alternative” media, but also by the fact that communication is now lightning speed.

I think we can thank the whoozits who wanted to Borgify us all for that unintended, but exceedingly beneficial, consequence. The FACT that the nonsense is becoming transparent is why the establishment media is losing ground: everybody hates the horse manure they try to feed us.

Yeah, they think we’re mushrooms: keep us in the dark, feed us horseshit, and we’ll thrive. They have no idea how wrong they are; we will survive the environment long enough to find real food in it, parse between truth-exposing and deceptive light, and then we’ll throw the buggers into the dustbin of history–yet another of myriad total control seeking regimes deposed over the course of human history.

Those numbers look made up. I can imagine Michele winning since it’s her home state, but Romney should have finished much higher than a couple of the people listed here. Hopefully Ron Paul will be the one to restore our democracy.

The hype before elections is “every vote counts”. Of course, those making these statements are by and large hypocrites who say one thing and do another. The ommission of actual votes is typical in NY and Florida, so why not in Iowa?

How many campaign dollars would someone have to spend to get the publicity bump Michelle Bachmann got from a Newsweek cover. In a campaign where it’s all about trying to motivate only a few thousand voters the publicity didn’t need to be positive. The negative cover certainly motivated SOME of the more timid Bachmann voters to show up and plunk their money down. Thirty dollars is probably what some of them would have paid to see Randy Travis anyway.

Now for the mysterious missing votes…. To say that they were spread out among a “scattering” of ballots for candidates garnering less than 1% of the vote ignores the fact that they do list two candidates (Huntsman and McCotter) finished well below that mark. Indeed McCotter only received 0.2%. The inclusion of Perry shows that they aren’t allergic to including write-in candidates.

You only really have to steal 58 votes from Ron Paul before you have to face conclusively that he and Bachmann tied at 28%. The percentage is common shorthand in reporting election results so I would think that the powers that be really wanted to be able to say there was that difference in the two candidates.

The people running the polls have an obligation to account for enough votes in their reporting to explain the gap between the two front runners. It’s not hard to keep up with less than 17,000 votes and the 56 votes that are unaccounted for even by vague generalities are more than the total number of votes received by McCotter who was on the ballot, participated in the debate and had his vote total reported.

One last thing. Why don’t these results make Romney look like a pure loser??
Huffingtonpost wins the prize with today’s headline, ‘Ames Win Positions Michele Bachmann As Rick Perry’s Top Obstacle To Be Anti-Romney.’ What!? The Democratic party establishment is terrified of Paul because they know how popular he is among their own base, especially the anti-war left. Paul would steal a lot of democratic votes from Obama, whereas Bachmann would not.

I was listening to the BBC coverage last night. The anchor mentionned Romney, Perry and Bachmann, but avoided mentionning Ron Paul`s name at all. The only reference was when the US correspondent referred to Pawlenty coming third after Ron Paul. There is a clear BBC agenda to tray and make Ron Paul dissappear from it`s news coverage. Why?
