Torrential rains claim 16 lives in China

Xinhua News Agency said on Monday that heavy rains also have affected about 1.5 million people and destroyed more than 1,000 homes in the provinces of Jiangx and Guangdong over the past three days.

The floods also wiped out crops in the southern Guangxi region.

A local government official said that the country suffered USD 20.3 million losses due to flood damages.

The official added that water levels in 10 reservoirs and several major rivers had risen above warning levels.

The report added that areas of Inner Mongolia in the north of China have been affected by floods as well.

Last month, at least 40 people were killed and 18 others went missing after hail and torrential rains battered a mountainous county in China’s northwestern province of Gansu.
