The San Francisco Giants are currently trending on Twitter in my neck of the woods, but it’s a pretty safe bet that people in the Ukraine, Greece, or Kenya don’t give a spitball about the team. To better serve the localized interests of its users, the microblogging site announced today that it has added more than 160 locations to the list served by its Trends product.

In addition to residents of the countries mentioned above, the people of Belgium, Norway, and Portugal are among those who will now have access to tailored results based on their location, Twitter said. The product also expanded to more than 130 cities in countries where Trends was already available.

Launched in 2010, Twitter Trends lets anyone on the Internet — regardless of where they are in the world — see what other Twitter users are talking about in other parts of the world. Users can choose specific locations from a list, or allow the microblogging service to tailor their results based on location and whom they follow.

Today’s expansion comes just months after Twitter added 100 cities to the product in December, nearly doubling its offerings. Despite that rapid expansion, Twitter has no plans to slow down.

“To make Trends more convenient and relevant for people around the world, we’re constantly working to bring Trends to more locations — be on the lookout for even more in the future,” Twitter software engineer Royce Cheng-Yue wrote today in a company blog post. “In the meantime, don’t hesitate to check out our support article on Trends for more information.”
