Researchers at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) have created a genetic testing technique that is said to predict male sexual orientation by a 70% accuracy margin.

This genetic algorithm called FuzzyForest determines whether a male is homosexual or straight by analyzing epigenetic markers that influence gene expression. All that is required is a single saliva sample.

Using 50 pairs of identical male twins, the researchers created 1 group that 37 pairs had a homosexual brother and a control group of 10 homosexual identical twins.

Because epigenetic markers affect how DNA code is interpreted by cells, FuzzyForest identified 9 regions across the twins’ respective genomes.

The study concluded: “Our results demonstrate that studies of the epigenome can yield new insights into the biological underpinnings of sexual orientation and provide strong support to the hypothesis that epigenetics is involved in sexual orientation.”

Tuck Ngun, post-doctoral researcher at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA explained : “Previous studies had identified broader regions of chromosomes that were involved in sexual orientation, but we were able to define these areas down to the base pair level with our approach.”

Ngun added: “Sexual attraction is such a fundamental part of life, but it’s not something we know a lot about at the genetic and molecular level. I hope that this research helps us understand ourselves better and why we are the way we are.”

Tim Spector, professor from Kings College London, commented : “It has always been a mystery why identical twins who share all their genes can vary in homosexuality. Epigenetic differences are one obvious reason and this study provides evidence for this.”

But while this study raises key points in sexual orientation, predicting it with an algorithm does not necessarily conclude what attracts them.

Peter LaBarbera from the anti-homosexual group, Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (ATAH) called conspiracy on the findings of the study: “David Geffen, a homosexual activist, gave a donation – probably a very, very large one – to UCLA, and they end up studying the gay gene, looking for the gay gene. And now they say they’ve found something with 70-percent accuracy that could predict it.”

LaBarbera told Fox News : “You know, there’s a really strong desire of the homosexual lobby to say that this is not a moral issue, that people are not responsible, that homosexual behavior is not a sin. There’s a strong, strong need to justify their immoral lifestyle. I think that’s what these studies are all about.”
