2 killed in US-led NATO copter crash

The cause of the Wednesday crash is unknown and details about the incident or the nationality of the killed soldiers have not been reported.

However, the Taliban militants say they have shot down several aircraft and NATO choppers in different parts of Afghanistan over the past few months.

At least 186 US-led soldiers, most of them Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year, according to icasualties.org, a website that keeps a tally of foreign soldiers’ deaths in the war-torn country.

The growing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has intensified opposition in the United States and other NATO member states against the protracted war in the country.

The US-led troops have been fighting in Afghanistan since 2001. Their initial offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continues to rise across the country despite the presence of thousands of foreign forces.
