Adolf Hitler is making a surprise political comeback, this time in India, according to press reports in the United States.
Adolf Hitler is a candidate for this year’s election in India.
A small northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya has a special fascination for interesting and sometimes controversial names.
Among the 345 political candidates running for the state assembly are Frankenstein and Hitler, among other U.S. presidential sounding names.
The 54-year-old man, who is a father of three, already won three state assembly elections with little controversy for being named after the Nazi dictator.
His father had worked with the British army, but apparently developed a fascination with the archenemy of Britain, naming his son Adolf Lu Hitler.
“I know at one point of time Adolf Hitler was the most hated person on Earth during the genocide of the Jews. But my father said that putting Lu in the middle, would make me different,” Hitler told newsreporters from the small village of Mansingre, 125 miles west of Gauhati, the capital of the neighboring state of Assam.
Hitler said that his name has not prevented him from traveling the world, including the United States and Germany.
“I never had trouble getting a visa, but I was asked many times why I have such a name. I always say that I did not choose my name,” Hitler said.
