Afghan soldier kills 2 US-led troops

“An individual believed to be an Afghan Local Police member turned his weapon against (NATO’s) International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service members in southern Afghanistan today, killing two,” ISAF said in an statement on Saturday.

“An ISAF service member returned fire, killing the attacker,” the statement added.

ISAF, however, did not disclose the nationalities of the slain foreign soldiers or further details of the incident.

The attack comes as anti-American sentiments have been on the rise across Afghanistan in reaction to the blasphemous US-made movie which insults the holy Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

Fresh angry protests have erupted across the country against the blasphemous movie and the country’s lawmakers call for the cancellation of a security pact with the United States

According to a count by the International Security Assistance Force for Afghanistan, the so-called green-on-blue attacks, in which Afghan soldiers turn their weapons against foreign allies, have killed nearly 50 US-led foreign soldiers in the country this year.

According to independent website icasualties.org, at least 330 US-led forces, most of them Americans, have died in Afghanistan so far this year.

The increasing number of military casualties in Afghanistan has caused widespread anger in the US and other NATO member states, undermining public support for the Afghan war.

The US-led war in Afghanistan began in 2001. The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but insecurity continue to rise across Afghanistan, despite the presence of about 130,000 US-led troops.
