The burglars fled empty-handed in a getaway car as Mr Carter tried to chase after them from his house on Aldershot Road.

A driver of a passing hospital transport vehicle found him on the main road covered in blood from the vicious assault.

He is now being treated at Frimley Park Hospital in Camberley, Surrey for serious head and hand injuries. His condition is said to be stable.

Local resident Sandra Grayson, 53, condemned the shocking attack on courageous Mr Carter.

She said: ‘Joe is well known around here – he’s always out and about and loves speaking to people.

‘He’s the friendliest soul in the world and for him to be attacked like this in his own home is truly awful.

Why no description of the attackers? If it’s for PC reasons like some people on here are suggesting, then shame on the police. They are helping this poor, decent man’s attackers evade justice.

Only a couple of weeks a ago a poor little old lady had her face sliced wide open with a machete her poor little face was in my head for days god bless her.

I wish Mr Carter a speedy recovery. It’s time the punishment fitted the crime, then things might just get better.

Animals like that, need banging up for a long time, And put in general population.

CJ What the hell is a diagreement?

Is anyone fooled anymore when no description is given

Until sentencing fits the crime, and these (insert word) are locked up and kept there, this will never stop. It makes me sick. I hope the poor man makes a full recovery.

Truly awful. Get well soon, Mr Cater. I hope you recover quickly. I hope they catch the thugs who did this and throw the key away. Soon.

Good people of Guilford get on the blower to the Police and get it sorted !.

What the hell is wrong with people? How could you do that to someone?! It’s makes me so sad ;-(
