It looks like radical Muslim jihadist terrorist scumbags are at it again but fortunately this attempt at violent carnage was thwarted just in a nick of time. The target? A soccer game in Germany at the HDI Arena which can hold up to 45,000 people.
The soccer game was cancelled just 90 minutes before the game was to start after explosives were found in a truck made to look like an ambulance was discovered which contained explosives. Local police also say that a suspicious package was found inside the stadium. This package, they confirm, had explosives and was left with the intention to be detonated during the game.
The Daily Mail reports that Police chief Volker Kluwe told public broadcaster NDR that there had been ‘a concrete threat scenario for all of Hanover’ and that there had been ‘serious plans to cause an explosion’.
He added that the the device was intended to be detonated inside the HDI Arena which has a capacity of 45,000.
‘We had concrete evidence that someone wanted to set off an explosive device in the stadium,’ Kluwe told German TV.
Referring to another bomb threat about an hour beforehand that turned out to be a false alarm, he said, ‘After the first object turned out to be harmless, we got a tip that had to be taken seriously that an attack was being planned.’
Announcements had advised fans, most of whom were outside the ground, to leave calmly and that there was no danger.
Police had earlier sealed off the ground after finding a suitcase before allowing fans to enter.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and several members of her Cabinet, as well as a couple of Dutch officials, were scheduled to attend the match but had not yet arrived at the stadium.
