TCP : The Cairo Criminal Court acquitted Wednesday Ahmed Abdullah in the retrial of the case known in media as “Marriott Cell,” Youm7 reported.

In June 2014, Abdullah along with other 11 Al-Jazeera employees, who were being tried in absentia, were sentenced to 10 years in prison on numerous charges of “joining an organization that has been established in contradiction with the provisions of the law to suspend the work on the constitution and the law,” according to Youm7.
In August 2015, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Al Jazeera journalists Mohamed Fahmy, Baher Mohamed and Peter Greste (in absentia), to three years in jail after finding them guilty of “aiding a terrorist organization,” in reference to the Muslim Brotherhood group that was banned by court ruling in December 2013.
In September 2015, Fahmy and Mohamed, who stood retrial on the same case, were released from prison following a presidential pardon.
The detainment of the Al-Jazeera journalists attracted significant international criticism from human rights organizations as well as media and foreign governments.
