Chef interviewed over fatal fire

Queensland police have interviewed celebrity chef Matt Golinski over the Boxing Day house fire that killed his wife and three daughters.

Police say Mr Golinski, who suffered horrific burns in the fire, understood the need for the interview as officers prepare a report for the coroner.

They say police must do all they can to determine the circumstances that led to the blaze at the family’s Sunshine Coast home, in the hope further tragedies might be avoided.

“It’s a very sad and drastic thing to have happened to them and it would be (difficult) for him to relive it,” Detective Senior Sergeant Darren Edwards told ABC Radio.

“Matt and his dad understand it is a necessary part for police to report to the coroner and … to have some outcome from the coroner that may prevent something happening to someone else later on.”

Mr Golinski was recently released from hospital but faces a recovery process that will take years.
