Conversations About Fairy Tales with William Scott: Rumpelstiltskin (Part 1)

William Scott of Teleolojic Folkways speaks to Ryan about the importance of rediscovering Grimm’s fairy tales as the collective dream shared by Northern Europeans and as the religious oral tradition that connects, sustains and nourishes our folk soul.

They discuss one of the most popular of the Brothers Grimm stories, ‘Rumpelstiltskin.’ The tale is analysed as an ethical allegory, a sexual allegory (which encourages young women to overcome their fears of male sexuality in order to achieve womanhood and bare children), and as a parable that warns of the predatory behaviour of Jews.

A considerable portion of this 3 hour discussion [in 1 hour segments; parts 2 and 3 to come] is spent on the history of Jews in conflict with their host populations, and that the cycle of infiltration-expulsion from the Genesis-Exodus saga in Egypt was repeated many times in Europe. The 1500 year German-Jewish conflict has left a subconscious mark on the Northern European psyche which has expressed itself in the many explicit and implicit fairy tales warning of the Jewish tactics of exploitation.
