“The structure which was found during a joint excavation with Italian archeologists, dates back to the 14th and 15th centuries,” said head of the Archeological Research Center of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Mahmoud Mireskandari.
“The monument had been a large palace once used as a governmental center,” Mireskandari explained.
The team will continue excavations in the area to find further information about the structure.
Estakhr is an ancient city located five kilometers north of Persepolis which was a prosperous city during the Achaemenid era.
