Four people have been rescued by emergency crews after being trapped when a ultra-light plane crashed this morning into a ferris wheel at a fair on the NSW mid-north coast.

Emergency services this afternoon confirmed that the pilot, passenger and two children have all been rescued.

“All the people involved in that incident do appear to have been able to get away without any serious injury,” a Rural Fire Services spokesman said.

It is not yet known what caused the accident.

Local resident Gary Jones said his nine-year-old twin boys got off the ferris wheel just seconds before the plane hit.

“It was a hell of a shock,” Mr Jones said.

“My sons were on the ferris wheel … they got off probably 60 seconds before (the plane hit).”

He said the plane “didn’t sound right” as it came over.

The local fair, The Old Bar Beach Festival, is an annual community event, now in its sixth year, and is famous for attracting Kombi vans.

“For Kombi owners this festival is a place to meet and share their passion for their beloved buses with like minded Kombi enthusiasts in a relaxed and festive atmosphere suited for the whole family,” the festival’s website states.
