HEATCON Partners with Leading Advanced Composites Supplier to Provide Custom Orders for Composite Part Manufacturers and Repair Depots

Customers in the aerospace, automotive, military and wind energy industries can now save money by purchasing composite repair materials in smaller quantities.

Seattle-based HEATCON Composite Systems is happy to announce the company’s continued relationship with Hexcel Corporation, an advanced composites leader and a recipient of the 2011 Silver Boeing Performance Excellence Award. The partnership strengthens HEATCON’s ability to provide specialized materials for custom composite repairs.

Under the current agreement, Hexcel supplies HEATCON with materials used in custom composite repair kits. More importantly, HEATCON uses these materials to provide customized cuts for repairing, as well as manufacturing composite structures, which lowers costs for manufacturers by helping to ensure excess material is not wasted.

Historically, businesses had to purchase time-sensitive composite repair materials in bulk, which required expensive freezers to store them properly – typically incurring long lead times. These repair supplies included film adhesives, primers, and prepreg materials.

“These items must be kept frozen, which can become a costly requirement because most companies must order much more than they usually need, and still the remaining supplies expire before they are used up,” HEATCON President Eric Casterline said. “HEATCON provides smaller quantity orders so companies no longer have to buy in bulk or store large amounts of material in expensive freezers.”

HEATCON saves aerospace companies money by allowing businesses to buy up to 10 yards as well as single rolls of material, instead of several hundred yards.

HEATCON, a leader in the composites repair industry, supplies materials such as fiberglass, carbon, peel ply and bagging film to aerospace companies and military providers. Composites are used heavily in the manufacturing and repair of newer Boeing and Airbus commercial aircraft, helicopter rotor blades and the blades on wind turbines.

“By partnering with distributors such as HEATCON, Hexcel’s customers, whether they are direct or through HEATCON, will benefit in the increased efficiency in the factory and in customer service,” said Jim Wojciehowski, director of Americas marketing and product management at Hexcel Corporation. “This service model will help us respond faster and provide better support to our direct customers. By referring urgent and AOG requests to distributors like HEATCON, Hexcel is able to better serve customers with timely, cost-effective materials.”

HEATCON is one of only a handful of U.S. companies with agreements to provide custom repair materials from Hexcel, one of the world’s largest producers of composite repair supplies. According to Casterline, HEATCON is able to provide custom orders because the firm stocks large quantities of repair supplies in a freezer in Washington.

“Because of our capabilities we’re able to meet customer demands,” HEATCON Sales Director Troy Daman said about the distributor agreement with Hexcel. “We carry pretty much everything that has to do with manufacturing and repair of composite materials.”

“Major suppliers carefully select their distributors,” Casterline said. “HEATCON was chosen partly because of the company’s ability to fill smaller orders. HEATCON currently provides about 100 custom orders per month and we expect to see an increase in custom orders as more companies become aware of the cost savings to be realized by purchasing their composite supplies in smaller amounts.”

HEATCON’s reputation as a leading provider of composite repair technologies along with its prestigious industry certifications, make the company a great choice for Hexcel’s list of distributors, Casterline said.
