‘Hegemons create terror groups as tool’

“Hegemonic powers have organized these [terrorist] groups … and today they use them as an excuse to confront regional nations and block their progress,” President Ahmadinejad said in a Thursday meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Asif Ali Zardari on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

President Ahmadinejad said that world powers do not respect the rights and interests of regional nations and added, “The aim of their presence and interference in regional affairs is to confront the sovereignty of nations and impede their progress.”

The Iranian chief executive said that challenges facing Afghanistan and Pakistan would not have persisted for long if foreign countries had not interfered by creating or aggravating the problems.

The president said that global powers continued to meddle in the affairs of Pakistan and Afghanistan to impede their development since they know that the progress of each and every one of regional countries will be to the benefit of all sovereign states.

He called for the promotion of cooperation to help pave the way for turning the status quo to the benefit of regional countries.

Iran sees no limits in the expansion of ties with Pakistan, he said, adding that Tehran would spare no efforts in helping Islamabad overcome its problems.

The Pakistani president also said that the creation of terrorist groups by certain countries gave them a free hand in interfering in regional affairs.

Zardari expressed his country’s resolve to improve security situation in neighboring Afghanistan and vowed that the Pakistani soil will not be used against regional countries’ interests.
