Help sought over suspicious Vic deaths

Two Victorian men have been killed in separate incidents soon after being released from police custody, police say.

Police are investigating their deaths as well as another unrelated suspicious death, the third in Victoria in 24 hours.

A 41-year-old man was found by his father at a house in Endeavour Hills in Melbourne’s southeast about 10.30am (AEDT) on Saturday. He had substantial injuries and police believe a weapon may have been used.

Homicide Detective Inspector John Potter said the man had been in custody on Friday regarding a domestic dispute with his wife.

Det Insp Potter said the man, who is yet to be formally identified, was linked to the address where he was found but it was unclear why he was there.

Police have no suspects. They are talking to the man’s father, wife and brother.

In an unrelated incident, a 25-year-old street-bashing victim died in hospital two hours after being released from custody for a drink-driving offence.

Five men believed to be in their 20s were taken into custody over the bashing, which occurred about 10.20pm (AEDT).

A sixth man handed himself over for questioning late on Saturday.

Police believe the victim was involved in a dispute with one of the men, which led him to an address in the area. The assault took place nearby.

Det Insp Potter said some of the men involved were known to police.

In the third suspicious death in Victoria in 24 hours, a man’s body was found in inner Melbourne on Saturday afternoon.

Emergency crews found the man’s body after being called to an address in Canning Street, North Melbourne, about 5.40pm (AEDT).

Police said the man, aged in his 40s, suffered injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

Anyone with information about any of the incidents should contact Crime Stoppers.
