For those of my readers who are not white, you may be wondering what it is like to have gorgeously white Caucasian skin that absolutely sparkles in natural sunlight. Well, wonder no more, because Hillary Clinton has provided the answer:
Her question in full: “Can you tell us what white privilege means to you and can you give me an example from your life or career when you think you have benefitted from it?”
The prompt ushered in cheers from the crowd.
“I think it is hard when you are swimming in the ocean to know exactly what is happening around you so much as it is when you’re standing on the shore perhaps watching,” Clinton responded.
So, for Hillary, being white is swimming in an ocean while black people are watching on the beach. Or perhaps being white is like being a great pelican, flapping your arms while watching coconut trees sway in the breeze. Or being white could be like playing with a toy train, while it rains outside and somewhere in China merchants are selling tea.
But Hillary was not yet done rambling:
Clinton then said she considered herself a “lucky person” growing up and listed a few examples of when that luck came into play in her early years.
“I was born white, middle-class, in the middle of America. I went to good public schools. I had a very strong, supportive family. I had a lot of great experiences growing up. I went to a wonderful college. I went to law school,” Clinton said.
So being black, by logical deduction, means not being born middle-class. All the blacks in the D.C. suburbs of Maryland will be surprised to learn about that!
Being black also means bad public schools, especially if you oppose school choice, as Hillary does.
Being black also means having a weak, unsupportive family. Could Hillary be making an oblique critique of single-parent families? Probably not!
Being black also means not having had great experiences growing up. Only whites can have that!
And being black means not going to a wonderful college, or going to law school. Was Obama still considered white when he went to Harvard Law School? When I saw him there, he looked black to me!
Actually, there is even more Hillary could have added about being white. Being white also means:
1) Never having to try as hard to get into college.
2) Never having to be worried about being as qualified to get a job.
3) Often being hired on race because employers want to show they hire white people.
4) Getting special preference in government contracting because of your whiteness.
5) Taking black votes for granted, especially if you’re a Democrat.
6) Being hired to appear in commercials based on your race.
7) Being the first to be called on to give the response to the State of the Union address.
