How Rare Are You? 10 Extraordinarily Rare Body Features That You Probably Don’t Have

The human body is amazing in all of its weirdness, right? Each of us grew just a little bit differently, and some of the might’ve even been born with some weird superpowers that make life a little easier for us!

Each of us grows differently every living moment of the day. Were all so extremely different and individual that no two copies are exactly alike. However, we do share common traits and characteristics with each other! Some of us are even born with superpower-like abilities. Not telekinesis, levitation, or invisibility – but small powers like being able to power through the day with just a few hours of sleep! Do you have any weird superpowers? Check out the ones below that make you extraordinarily special!

1. Palmaris Longus

The palmaris longus is a muscle in our wrist that used to only be present in our ancient ancestors. When you place your hand on a flat surface and touch your thumb with the pinky finger you will be able to see it if you have it. In the center of your wrist, the muscle will pop out of the skin to be visible!

2. Tetrachromatic

Tetrachromatic are people who can see much more color than the rest of us. It’s an extremely rare condition caused by a mutation in the X chromosome. It can give people a fourth type of cone cell in their eyes that enable them to see colors that nobody else can see! Tetrachromatic make up less than 10% of the population.

3. Heart Disease

Some people are less likely to contract heart disease because of another genetic deficiency. The gene, Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), makes it easier for your body to transport fat cells around the body. Some people are deficient in this proprotein which reduces their risk of coronary disease or heart disease.

4. Chimerism

Chimerism is one of the most intriguing genetic mutations. This condition allows a person to have an eye of one color and the other be a different color. Two eyes and two different colors are very rare.

5. Increased Bone Density

Some people are even born with a thicker bone density. A gene called Low-density Lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5 (LRP5) allows the bones to regularly maintain homeostasis. Homeostasis helps replenish bone cells that die off in life. The protein makes their bones much stronger than the rest of the population.

6. Gold Blood

It sounds awesome, but no these peoples blood isn’t actually golden. However, it can be donated to any blood type out there. They are so rare that there are only ten known people in the world who possess it.

7. Extra Rib

Some people are also born with an extra rib! The extra rib is found in the cervical spine area on the neck and can vary in size. Particularly large ones can cause an immense amount of discomfort or pain.

8. Gills?

Yes, you heard that right – some people are born with what is believed to be the remnants of ancestral gills. It is a small hole outside your outer ear and only 5% of the population has it. It’s called Preauricular sinus.

9. No Need For Rest

Another rare genetic mutation can cause people to rarely need to rest. They can function on very small amounts of sleep and only require about 2-3 hours of sleep. The rare gene is known as Basic helix loop helix family member e41 (BHLHE41 or DEC2). Margaret Thatcher and Nikola Tesla had this rare gene.

10. Multiple Rows of Lashes

While most people only have a row of eyelashes on the top of the eyelid and one on the bottom, some people are born with a mutation that allows them to grow multiple rows of eyelashes. This mutation is known as Distichiasis and even Elizabeth Taylor had it!
