I’m always thinking about the next surf trip, and one of the absolute cheapest ways to travel around Europe (I live in Berlin) is camping. Rick Steves sums it up here.

In the summer, Europe’s surfers head for the swell in France, Spain, and Portugal — but particularly in France (I have had my eye on the coastal town of Vieux-Boucau, France for a while), the price of accommodation can really rack up.
The camping enthusiasts know it’s just not the rock-in-the-back, mountains-of-heavy-gear, hours-of-set-up it used to be, if you do it right.
Case in point, the polyester-nylon cave tent designed by Frackenpohl Poulheim for Heimplanet, which I came across at design fair DMY Berlin. This polyester-nylon tent makes roughing it not so rough for up to three people (or 6 sitting) with a highly innovative pump system.
This pump system means the tent pitches in less than a minute flat — roll out, inflate, finished. The frame, inner tent, and flysheet are all included in that minute. Air is filled in five independent chambers.
The price is a bit hefty — 500 euro or about $635 — but if it’s just the effort of setting it up that deters you from pitching in the great wide open, well then the savings you’ll have from cutting out the carbon-heavy hotel from the budget add up fast.
The Cave is designed with what the manufacturer calls an “Inflatable Iron Grid,” which means it can withstand winds up to 120 kilometers per hour (or 75 miles per hour).
